In fall 2025, the northern area of Gyeongbokgung Palace will open at night for a special Hanbok festival during the Royal Culture Festival. Entry is free if you wear Hanbok, letting you step into the spotlight and enjoy traditional performances and unique experiences against the palace’s stunning night lights.

Program Overview

Theme 1: Daily Life Recreated

Theme 2: Performances

  • Eotcheoguni and Hanbok Pieces: An interactive play led by Eotcheoguni, the guardian figurines of the palace.
  • Hanbok Banquet: A heritage performance highlighting the beauty and dignity of Hanbok.

Theme 3: Exhibitions

  • Hanbok Stories: Demonstrations and displays of Hanbok-making with holders of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Theme 4: Experiences

  • Take Hanbok Home!: A secondhand Hanbok pop-up store with local vendors.
  • Hanbok Partnership Project: Collaborative content sharing the harmony of Hanbok and brands.
  • Hanbok Arcade: A retro arcade experience with Hanbok-themed games.
  • Hanbok Portrait Artist: Have your own Hanbok self-portrait drawn inside the palace.
  • Gungidungi Playground: On-site events like Hanbok quizzes and interactive activities.

Information

  • Eligible Participants: Foreigners (including foreign citizens and permanent residents)
    • This event is a program that both Koreans and foreigners can experience together. However, only tickets for foreigners can be purchased through Creatrip.
    • Koreans cannot participate with this ticket, and tickets for Koreans will be sold separately through other platforms. Information on Korean tickets will be provided later via a separate link.

  • Reservation Method: Creatrip advance reservation (up to 4 tickets per person) 
  • Reservation Confirmation: Admission is possible after confirming your Creatrip reservation on site

  • Event Period: October 8, 2025 (Wed) ~ October 9, 2025 (Thu) / Total 2 days, 2 sessions (1 session per day)
  • Event Duration: About 120 minutes
  • Event Venue: Gyeongbokgung Jibokjae, Geoncheonggung, Hyangwonjeong area (northern area)
  • Age Restriction: 7 years and older (born before 2018) can attend (under 7 not allowed for safety reasons)
    • School-age children and teenagers (born 2007 ~ 2018) must be accompanied by at least one guardian (ticket required per person)
  • Experience Capacity: Limited to 300 people per session (for foreigners)
  • Experience Time (KST): Must arrive at the on-site registration area at least 20 minutes in advance
    • 19:00 ~ 21:00

How to Reserve

  1. Please fill in the required information in detail.
  2. Once payment is completed, your reservation will be confirmed immediately.
  3. Please wait at the on-site registration area (information desk in front of Gyeongbokgung Sinmumun Gate) at least 20 minutes before the viewing time. Admission will begin after confirming your reservation at the registration area. Please present your Creatrip reservation details.
    • Gyeongbokgung Sinmumun Gate is located across from the main gate of the Blue House, and it takes a few minutes on foot from Gyeongbokgung Station, so please try to complete admission at least 20 minutes before the event starts.
    • For smooth operation and safety reasons, admission will be restricted after the program starts.
    • Parking inside Gyeongbokgung is limited, so public transportation is recommended.
  4. After your reservation is confirmed, please follow the instructions of the on-site staff.

How to Get There 

  • Address: Information desk in front of Gyeongbokgung Sinmumun Gate, 161 Sajik-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
    • Gyeongbokgung Sinmumun Gate is located across from the main gate of the Blue House, and it takes a few minutes on foot from Gyeongbokgung Station, so please try to complete admission at least 20 minutes before the event starts.
  • Subway
    • Line 3 Gyeongbokgung Station Exit 4 (15 minutes on foot)
    • Line 3 Anguk Station Exit 1 (20 minutes on foot)
  • Bus
    • From 'Gyeongbokgung Station Bus Stop' in front of Exit 3 of Gyeongbokgung Station, take bus numbers 1711, 1020, 7018, 7016, 7022, or 7212 and get off at 'Hyoja-dong Bus Stop' 
    • From 'National Palace Museum Bus Stop', take bus number 01A and get off at 'Blue House Bus Stop' 
  • Car
    • Paid parking lot available on the east side of Gyeongbokgung (parking fee not included)

Things To Keep In Mind

Reservation

  • This event allows both advance reservation and on-site registration. However, on-site registration is only available for those wearing traditional hanbok, and entry may be restricted if the number of participants exceeds the limit.
  • Only those wearing traditional hanbok are allowed to enter and participate in this event. The hanbok dress code follows the guidelines of the Cultural Heritage Administration Royal Palaces and Tombs Center <Hanbok Free Admission Guidelines (link)>.
  • You can only participate in the event on the date you selected during reservation. Participation on a different date is not allowed. 
  • This event is automatically confirmed upon reservation. However, if the number of tickets purchased does not match the number of people entered, the reservation may be canceled even after confirmation.
  • This event is for foreigners only. If purchased by a Korean national, the ticket may be canceled without notice. (Entry with this ticket is not allowed for Koreans accompanying foreigners; only foreigners with a passport can enter)
  • Koreans and foreigners can experience the program together, but only tickets for foreigners can be purchased through Creatrip.
  • Koreans cannot participate with this ticket. Tickets for Koreans will be sold separately on another platform. Information about Korean tickets will be provided later via a separate link.
  • Koreans with foreign permanent residency or citizenship must present both proof of status and their passport on-site to participate. [National Heritage Promotion Agency] staff will verify the documents and inform you about entry eligibility. Entry eligibility is not determined by [Creatrip], and [Creatrip] is not responsible if entry is denied.
  • This event is open to those aged 7 and above (born before 2018). School-age children and teenagers (born 2007–2018) must be accompanied by one guardian. (A ticket is required for each person, and children under 7 are not allowed for safety reasons)
  • A maximum of 4 tickets can be reserved per person. If you purchase more than 4, all tickets may be canceled. Also, reserved tickets cannot be transferred to others.
  • Please enter the information of the reserver and accompanying persons when booking. If the information does not match on-site or if the reservation is fraudulent, it will be invalid and non-refundable. (Accompanying persons must also be foreign citizens or foreign permanent residents)
  • If you use fraudulent methods or purchase tickets for scalping, the reservation may be canceled and use restricted without prior notice.

Event

  • Please wait at the on-site registration desk (in front of Sinmumun Gate, Gyeongbokgung Palace) at least 20 minutes before the event. Entry will begin after confirming your reservation at the registration desk. Please present your Creatrip reservation details.
  • The on-site registration desk at Sinmumun Gate is located inside Gyeongbokgung Palace and takes several minutes to reach on foot, so please arrive about 20 minutes before the event starts.
  • Re-entry is not allowed for smooth operation and safety reasons.
  • As the parking lot is far from the event venue, we recommend using public transportation.
  • If rain is forecasted at 11:00 AM on the day of the event according to the Meteorological Administration, the performance may be canceled. In this case, we will notify each reserver individually. Please make sure to enter the correct email address, as incorrect emails may prevent you from receiving notifications.
  • We are not responsible for accidents or loss of belongings due to personal negligence. 
  • Pets are not allowed to participate in the event. 
  • All areas inside the palace are non-smoking.
  • As this is a national cultural heritage protection area, food, tripods, flash photography, and other items that may cause safety issues or facility damage are not allowed.
  • Due to the nature of the venue, restroom access may be inconvenient, so please use the restroom before entering. (Gyeongbokgung parking lot, Gyeongbokgung Station restrooms)
  • Media coverage and broadcasting may take place on the day of the event, and filming may occur without prior notice. Photos and videos taken during the event may be used for promotion, research, and publications by the National Heritage Promotion Agency.
